"Adaptive and non-adaptive group sequential tests" by Christopher Jennison and Bruce W. Turnbull. This paper derives theory of optimal adaptive and non-adaptive group sequential designs, extending the theoretical results of Tsiatis and Mehta (Biometrika, 2003) and explaining the implications of this theory.
