Research:
Details can be found at the Centre for Photonics and Photonic Materials
(CPPM) website
Teaching:
PH30101 (General Relativity): I taught
the whole unit, on General
relativity without tensors, in year 3 semester 2. There's a handout on non-Euclidean
paper models, and an exercise
exploring a time-travel paradox. The unit has been discontinued – the
replacement unit omits some topics so, if you are a current student at Bath, don’t
learn from the historical materials here!
PH40086
(Photonics): I teach half the unit, on linear photonics (mostly optical
fibres), in year 4 semester 2.
Details can be found on the
appropriate Moodle page.
Of the other units I taught in
the past, I produced typeset notes on Fourier analysis (half
of PH20020, Maths for Scientists 4) and Statistical mechanics
(half of PH20029, Thermal Physics). They're available here in case anyone finds
them helpful. (NB Bath students should note that content, notation and
terminology may differ from the units as they are currently taught.)
