Monitoring the near-Earth space environment

The ionized portion of the Earth's ionosphere ranges from 90km above the surface of the Earth to well over 1000km.  Satellite and ground-based radio signals are influenced on propagation through this medium that can significantly effect communications around the globe.  The Ionospheric and Imaging Research group at Bath has been active for a number of years in the study of this region.

The group's main interests include ionospheric imaging, geomagnetic storms, scintillation and the consequences these geophysical phenemonon have on satellite communications.
