Dr Agustín Morales Aguilar Agustín joined the University of Bath as a PDRA in February 2025, working alongside Dr McMullin in collaboration with Prof. Hill, focusing on the computational assessment of redox-active heterobimetallic complexes and their reactivity towards small molecule activation. After studying a BSc in Chemistry at the University of Seville, Agustín enrolled in a two-year French-Spanish program, through which he was awarded two Master's degrees in Chemical Engineering and Molecular & Supramolecular Chemistry by the ECPM, as well as a MSc in Advanced Studies in Chemistry by the University of Seville. Within this program, he also had the opportunity to complete a four-month research internship at BASF in Ludwigshafen am Rhein (Germany). Agustín then returned to Seville to do his Master's thesis at the IIQ within the Campos group, focusing on Transition Metal Only Frustrated Lewis Pairs (TMOFLP) and unconventional metallic centers for small molecule activation. In 2020, he pursued a European Joint Doctorate (EJD) in Chemistry as a Marie Curie Fellow under the guidance of Dr Baslé and Dr Bontemps (LCC, France) and Prof. Lledós (UAB, Spain). His PhD focused on the synthesis of NHC-CO2-based adducts and the evaluation of their one-electron reduction through a combined theoretical and experimental study, awarded Cum Laude in December 2023. |
