How long before I can start jumping, is there a load of theory?

Before you take your first jump there is a day of ground school. Here you are taught about how your equipment works, how to fly your canopy, what to do on the jump, how to deal with any emergencies that might occur. Once you leave the plane you’re on your own for the next few minutes and the instructors have to make sure that you know what you’re doing!

I've got a medical condition can I skydive?

Before you will be allowed to skydive you will have to sign a Declaration of Fitness to Parachute. Basically, medical conditions that are considered incompatible with skydiving are epilepsy, fits, severe head injury, recurrent blackouts or giddiness, disease of the brain or nervous system, high blood pressure, heart or lung disease, recurrent weakness or dislocation of any limb. If none of these apply to you then you will probably be fine to skydive.

The fitter you are the less likely you are to get injured but you certainly don’t have to be an elite athlete! If you have any concerns about your health as it relates to skydiving then please get in touch with us at jump@bath.ac.uk.
