Dr Irene Macías, Teaching Fellow in Spanish and Fellow of
the Higher Education Academy, joined the Department in 1999.
She graduated from King's College, London, where she obtained her
degree and, in 1997, her doctorate. Before coming to
Bath, she taught in the BA Spanish and Latin American Studies of
the External Degree Programme of the University of London, where
she was responsible for two units on contemporary peninsular Cultural
Studies. She also did freelance interpreting for Amnesty International
and translated into Spanish Hugh Kearney´s The British
Isles: A History of Four Nations, CUP, ISBN 0 521 48488 X.

At Bath she has designed and convened the first year Introduction
to 20th Century Spanish Culture, and the final year option In Search
of Latin America: Diversity and the Dream of Unity.
She is currently convenor for the Spanish language units in the
first and final years. She is also responsible for a postgraduate
translation unit on the MA in Interpreting and Translating. Other
duties include Year Abroad Coordinator for the Spanish Section,
Chair of the Year Abroad Committee, Administrator of Lectorship
with Universidad Complutense and Advisor for the Postgraduate Certificate
in Academic and Professional Practice.
