The third Bath-Paris meeting
The University of Bath, 9-11 June 2014
Map
A map of Bath showing the hotel, the University, bus stops and the train and coach stations can be found here.
Accommodation
Participants who have had accommodation booked for them will now be staying in the Hilton hotel in the centre of town. This is because the building that was booked on campus will not be built by 9th June! Apologies for any inconvenience.
Getting to the University of Bath
You can find general information on how to get to the University via this link. There is a coach booked to take us from the hotel to the University every morning at 8.45am.
If you are arriving by air, the nearest airport is Bristol airport. From there you can take the A4 bus (see here for details) to Bath. Alternatively there are buses from the airport to Bristol Temple Meads, and it's a short train journey from there to Bath.
Heathrow airport is also not too far from Bath. From there you can either get a National Express coach (experiment with the options - there is free travel on the Heathrow Express between terminals, and sometimes a more convenient coach will set off from a different terminal) or the "RailAir bus" to Reading and then a train to Bath. The RailAir bus / train option can be booked as a single ticket through the National Rail website.
Other airports include Gatwick and Birmingham. These are not usually as convenient for travel to and from Bath, but you might be able to find reasonable deals by checking the National Express (coach) and National Rail (train) websites.
If you are arriving by Eurostar, you can book an onward journey either directly through the Eurostar website or by using the National Rail website. Tickets can also be bought when you arrive, though booking in advance is often cheaper. You need to travel from "London St Pancras" to "Bath Spa" - this will involve a trip on the London Underground (Hammersmith and City line or Circle line) to Paddington, and then usually a direct train from Paddington to Bath. One ticket will cover both sections of the journey.
Bath's train and bus/coach stations are both called "Bath Spa" and are right next to each other in the centre of town. From there, it is a short walk (10-15 minutes) to the hotel, or an even shorter taxi ride. Directions can be found at this link.
Booking well in advance is usually cheaper. If you have any problems, please contact Matt Roberts.
The Wolfson lecture room, 4W 1.7
The Department of Mathematical Sciences is based in 4 West, a glass-fronted building housing a café on the main parade. Once inside the building go down the main staircase and turn left: the Wolfson room is straight ahead of you.
