Teaching InitiativesI have been involved in a range of teaching initiatives since joining the department, many of which have included an element of school to university transition. I am currently involved in two major projects: Drop in mathematics support centre We have recently secured funding from the National Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning responsible for mathematics and statistics support, sigma. sigma is run jointly at the Universities of Loughborough and Coventry and has developed resources such as the mathcentre website. From October 2007, we will extend the mathematics support offered at the University of Bath to provide an institutional support centre. For further details of the proposed centre, please click here. We are currently advertising for a teaching fellow to work part time in the centre. Further details are given here. Tutor training programme for mathematics undergraduatesRun jointly with the SU SORTED programme, we are developing a training programme for undergraduates interested in acting as tutors for the first year units. We are currently operating two versions of the programme: a year long extended programme and a short one day programme in September for new postgraduates and undergraduates who were overseas in their third year. For more details about the programme, please click here. I am also involved in the Wessex Mathematics
Masterclass programme and other occasional outreach programmes. |
