I got my B.A. in Mathematics (1982) and Diploma in Mathematical Statistics (1983) from the University of Cambridge. I have a PhD in Statistics (1987) from the Department of Statistics, University of California, Berkeley. I used to work at the Department of Statistics, University of Michigan (1987-2006).
I’ve written some books:

My research is on the interface between the theory and application of Statistics. I have worked on a wide range of statistical problems ranging over astronomy, athletics, concrete, cosmetics, fungicides, fuel filters, marketing of cars, obesity and schizophrenia. I have also served as a consultant to industry on statistical issues.
Here are my publications which can also be seen on my Google Scholar page.

I work on shape change modelling for facial motion. This is being applied to children with cleft lip and palate and adults with facial paralysis
I’ve worked on functional data analysis for applications in ergonomics and biomechanics. These methods have been used in vehicle and workplace design.
