Head on collision of two vortex rings

Head on collision of two Norbury rings

The image shows the collision of two identical Norbury rings initially separated by one ring radius. The cores of the two rings are shown moving towards the plane of symmetry under their mutually-induced velocities. The deformation of the vortex cores is especially obvious: this is an important element in calculating the noise from such a vortex event. More details of the method used in the calculation will be available soon.
