Marcelle McManus
Full Name:
Dr Marcelle McManus
Department:
Mechanical Engineering
Job Title:
Lecturer
Research interests:
I am an environmental scientist with an MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing and an LLM in Environmental Law. My research enables me to work with engineers to determine the environmental impact of different engineering options, with particular regard to renewable energy systems. My PhD was based on the use and environmental impact of mineral and rapeseed oil in hydraulic systems.
My current research activities and interests include investigating the life cycle environmental impact of renewable energy systems, primarily bioenergy.
This work is funded by the Great Western Research Council (GWR) and involves an analysis of the life cycle impact of different bioenergy systems.
I am also involved with the LCA aspect of the SuperGen Highly Distributed Power Systems research project.
I have a detailed knowledge and interest in the environmental impact of food transportation and production, bioenergy and sustainable procurement. Other research interests include process and product improvement through the use of LCA, environmental law, the improvement of supply chains through the use of LCA, and the issues of uncertainty and methodology of LCA.
