Au pays des aveugles

This is the story of Hrabar of the black gown, who can be considered as the first mage to emerge from the Slovon lands. Indeed, he was the first to be fully considered as a mage in the chronicles of the Wiching Empire and his school of magic grew up to a level where its prominence equaled that of the Empire itself. It is widely recognized that without the work of Hrabar, all the Slovon peoples would have been assimilated within the culture of the powerful Empire. Yet, this is not the story of a great man but that of a child. 

The story was published in the Canadian magazine Brins d'éternité.

Le bon vieux temps

Victor Lieber is a university professor of astrophysics searching to understand the origin of the universe. Yet, with us all being composed of stardust, wouldn't it be much more convenient if we could simply remember the instants of the creation? This is a translation in French of my short story Good old days, which first appeared in Jupiter 17 (see below). It is now on the pages of the Canadian magazine Brins d'éternité.

in Brod, issue 4

Stars ("Zvezdi" in Bulgarian) was published in the Bulgarian literary revue Brod, which is part of the Parnas publishing group. It tells a romantic love story on a background that combines Bulgarian folklore and science fiction.

Prise de conscience ("Enlightenment" in the English translation) is a rather short text. It tells the story of a few high tech guys partying in the Silicone Valley after the success of that marvelous technological project, which is going to make them rich and famous. It was published in the French science fiction magazine Géante Rouge.

Séduction is a vampire story, which appeared in the Canadian horror magazine Nocturne. In fact, this text is part of my first attempt at a novel - Mozak -  and it is very rewarding to finally see it in print.

Operation Marketing

Founded in 1924, Пламък is one of the most prestigious literary reviews in Bulgaria. Well, it took some time but, finally, here is my first publication in my own, mother-tongue. Ironically though, my mother did most of the translation to Bulgarian.

Astounding

in Delivered Christmas 2007 issue

Astounding is my very first story written in English and it was published in the special Christmas issue of the British short stories book Delivered. It was conceived as a classical "aliens from outer space" science fiction story, inspired by the spirit of the genre in the 50ies and the great authors of that time.

At the limit of infinity (in French) was published in the issue number 76 of the French fanzine Lunatique. It is a very short story - 320 words - and the idea came to me on Easter. It is about the pope visiting the Catholic University of Leuven...

Good old days

in Jupiter 17

Good old days (in English) was published in July 2007, in the British science fiction magazine Jupiter.

          When Prof. Victor Lieber came home that night, he found his wife crying. During their twenty two years of marriage, this had never happened before. Laura was an exceptionally poised person who hardly ever lost her composure. Victor was so surprised that, not knowing how to react, he just stood at the door of the living room staring at her.

Operation Marketing

in Solaris 158

My very first short story Operation Marketing (in French) has been published in the volume 158 of the Canadian magazine Solaris.

Furthermore it was nominated as one of the 6 finalists (out of 332 participants) for the Rosny aîné prize 2007. This is a literary prize for French science fiction. It has been awarded annually since 1980 in two categories - best novel and best short fiction - and it is considered as the French language equivalent of the prestigious Hugo Awards.

For a neurological approach of the problem of litteracy

in SF Magazine

Writing scientific articles is a significantly different exercise. The form, style and length are strictly defined and every attempt at personal expression is generally treated with a scornful look. Although by now I fully appreciate the scientific literature, my beginning in the literary form was full of frustrations. These frustrations lead to: For a neurological approach of the problem of litteracy,  which is the title of my second short story that can be found on the web site of the Belgian science fiction magazine SF Mag. The story is a "false" scientific article, meaning that the experimental equipment and the references are genuine, while the described experiment is pure fiction. It is therefore science fiction, literally.

Appointment

in NanoWorld 2020 and Nthposition

Appointment (in English) was written for the science fiction contest  NanoWorld 2020 organized in the Netherlands as part of the "Sience + Fiction" exhibition. My story won the third place. Later on it was accepted in the British online magazine/ezine nthposition, in the issue of October 2006. You can find the story here: appointment.
