SUMMARY: Séverin Desjaunes leads a restless life. He is a young engineer working for the company  Fun Technologies, who, at nightfall, visits the hospital where his friend - doctor Pravedine - regularly asks him to perform miraculous healings.
Unfortunately, Séverin's supernatural gift appears unable to help the only person he really wishes to heal - his wife Arline, who is suffering from a super-resistant form of tuberculosis. In order to attempt to rescue her, the young man will need to find the origin of his ability.

He then begins a journey in a world where nothing is as it seems, where physicians are killers while vampires save lives and where death is only a transition.
Finally, in the middle of this chaos, when the notions of opposition and complementarity lose their meaning, a new life and a new humanity will be born.

L'Océan Noir (in French)

publisher: unknown

In many ways, Le Mauve Empire has been an experimental book for me. It combines several genres - science fiction, horror, urbane fantasy, hard science and cyberpunk in a near-future setting. The latter is close enough to modern day reality, though mixed up with gothic subculture aesthetics and with science fiction imagination. In the process of writing it, I found out that there are things I can do better than others and, more importantly, things that I enjoy doing more than others.

At the moment, L'Océan Noir is the working title for a forthcoming novel. The story is set in an imaginary world - in the far future, on a distant planet. Most likely, there will be no vampires. The planet itself is unusual and the text would be closer to hard-science science fiction than to magic. A lot of the extrapolations will come from my own research or that of my colleagues and friends at the university.
