1985 Ph.D from the Applied Physics Department, Stanford University, USA.

1985-86 Post-Doc at IBM Research Laboratories, Zürich, Switzerland.
1986-89 Post-Doc at the Max Planck Institute FKF, Stuttgart, Germany.
1989-94 Lecturer, 1994-95 Senior Lecturer, 1995-2000 Reader, 2000-present Professor, Department of Physics, University of Bath.
