Walk The Plank!
This game models the behaviour of a cantilever beam under a single point load.
The section size, beam length and the magnitude of the point load can be changed by dragging input sliders and the location of the point load can be changed by clicking on the slider below the plank.
The deflection criteria and maximum allowable end slope angle can be inputted using the text boxes below.
The restart button should be used to reset the variables after the deflection and/or end slope criteria have been changed or to restart from the beginning.
The beam end deflection, end slope angle and the section's second moment of area can be seen in the output box in the bottom right hand corner.
The beam has been assumed to be timber and has an elastic modulus of 8800 N/mm2
