What is the impact of different urban planning strategies on the greenhouse gas emissions of transportation? This tool gives you an estimation of the level of carbon emissions caused by commuting, depending on your urban layout. It simulates the distance vehicles travel from residential to downtown areas.
To use this tool:
- Left click on a block to designate a suburban (residential) district
- Right click on a block to designate a city centre
- Middle click on a block to remove a designation
You can then start the simulation by clicking on the Run button. The grid layout can be modified by specifying the number of columns and rows and then clicking on the Reset button. The real-life dimension of one block width can also be specified. This affects the travelled distance.
