In this free download, source code files for the Basic-level 'main engines' are not complete, but contain the main program and the STIFF subroutine in each case. Run-time versions of the main engines are however provided in POISS.EXE, ELAST.EXE and FRAME.EXE, so that the user can run a complete f.e. analysis for these applications, creating his/her own data file or developing one from the sample files provided. The .dat and .out data files provided in the Full version are also contained in the Demo version, and can be viewed in PREFEL and FELVUE respectively; they are described in the last section of the online manual. In addition, small-mesh versions of the example datafiles for POISS, ELAST and FRAME are provided:
Step 1:
Click on the DEMODISK.EXE link below, and download the self-extracting Zip file DEMODISK.EXE on your hard drive, e.g. in C:\TEMP.DEMODISK.EXE (384 KB)
Note for Netscape users: Netscape SmartDownload appears to be too smart to do this! If it produces a "network problem" error message, turn SmartDownload off and download the file manually.
Step 2:
To install, run DEMODISK.EXE by double-clicking on it in Windows Explorer or My Computer. It will ask for a directory to unzip the files to; the default is C:\FELIPE, and this directory will be created if it does not already exist. Once the file has been unzipped, DEMODISK.EXE can be deleted.
The unzipped files will appear within the target directory. If your computer network does not permit downloading of executable files, you can download the zip file DEMODISK.ZIP from the link below.
DEMODISK.ZIP (321 KB)
This can be unzipped using the free WinZip utility.
Create a C:\FELIPE folder, and extract the files into it.
Step 3:
Repeat the process with the download files SALFORD.EXE and DATAFILES.EXE. When you run them, they will also install their contents in C:\FELIPE by default.Step 4:SALFORD.EXE (772 KB)
DATAFILES.EXE (292 KB)Alternatively, download the .zip versions below:
SALFORD.ZIP (711 KB)
DATAFILES.ZIP (231 KB)
Extract all the files into the C:\FELIPE folder.Open the C:\FELIPE folder using Windows Explorer or My Computer, and click on the PREFEL or FELVUE icons to run the pre- or post-processors - see the READDEMO.TXT file in the package, or at the link below.
Note that the Salford Fortran programs such as FELIPE access your PC's extended memory above the 1MB limit. This allows the possibility of clashes with other applications such as memory managers or disk caches. It is recommended that you close other applications before running FELIPE. FELIPE is however compatible with other extended-memory software which follows the Virtual Control Program Interface (VCPI) eXtended Memory Specification (XMS).
Installation of the software does not make any changes to your computer's system files, etc. To uninstall the demo version, simply delete the DEMODISK folder and all the files in it, using Windows Explorer.
Before trying out the package, you should read (using Notepad) the file READDEMO.TXT which describes how to use the pre- and post-processors, and the various sample data files provided. You can read this information on the Web by clicking here. The file READFULL.TXT which accompanies the Full version of the package, is also included. There is now also an extensive online manual!
Please email me if you have any problems with downloading. I can email the demodisk.exe or demodisk.zip files to you as email attachments.
