Creating your Design Skills Portfolio
This page includes the information you need to create your EDP portfolio, which is what your overall mark in EPD is dependent on.
Step 1: Create the Portfolio
The instructions below show you how to copy the correct Collection
template.
Step 2: Note important features of the portfolio
At this stage, your portfolio should look like this.
Note that:
- The first page has all the skills you expect based on the skills evidence framework
- There is an overview page
- There is one generic page
Step 3: Start populating your portfolio!
You are now ready to star populating your portfolio. Below is a collection of helpful tips and guidance to refer to when needed.
This example portfolio has been created to help you with how you may want to structure your portfolio.
The “Skills Mapping” section is simply a header under which you add the skills you are claiming as annotation blocks.
See the example here.
Annotation blocks are very important because they are how you claim
skills. The instructions below show the steps to add an annotation block.
Remember:
- Only request a specific skill on a page once. If the same piece of work contains evidence for two levels, please request the higher level.
- Make sure you specify what level you are claiming for: Knowledge, application or synthesis.
It is important to manage your storage effectively by deleting any unused or duplicate files. You can do that by following the steps below.
Please see the instructions in the bottom of the lab script C1.02 Introduction to Instrumentation

Every digital artefact (e.g. photos, figures, videos and other non-text items) must clearly show the username of everyone contributing to the work in such a way as to authenticate the intellectual ownership of the artefact.
How this is done can vary based on the skill and type of digital artefact
Case | How to show username |
---|---|
The method of showing username is defined in the skill requirements. | The method described must be followed (e.g. username engraved in CAD) |
Screenshots | If your username is not already visible within the screenshot, you can add it digitally. This link provides an example on how to do that. |
Photographs | You can either: 1. Have your library card(s) or a paper with your username(s) in shot 2. Add your username digitally. This link provides an example on how to do that. |
Videos | It is probably easiest to ensure you have your library card(s) or a paper with your username(s) in shot. However, there are video editing tools, such as Adobe Express, which are free to use. |
Code | The usernames of everyone involved must be stated at the beginning of the script, along with the date. |
Other types of digital artefact (e.g. pdfs) | Ensure the usernames are added before exporting as pdf. |
The best way to add videos to mahara is to:
- Upload the video to panopto
- Embed the video on your mahara page
The instructions below guide you on how to do both.
