Sustainability considerations

E-Waste

In this project week, you have the opportunity to claim the “E-waste” skill at knowledge level.

To claim this skill, you must either:

  • Write a section entitled “Consideration of e-waste” (between 200 and 500words)
  • Choose a specific e-waste (PCB, IC, component or other electronic device) linked to the project
  • Discuss how this specific e-waste could be recycled, reused or repaired and/or limitations for this e-waste to be recycled, reused or repaired.
  • Propose a way to reduce the e-waste in the project.

The 4Rs (which are Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle) are described and discussed in the lecture about “E-waste and circular economy” of Week 11 on Moodle.

Other

In this project week, you also have the opportunity to claim the “Climate and Sustainability literacy” and the “electronics enhancing sustainability” skills at application level. This project is relevant for you to discuss both of those topics in your portfolio.

Transferable skills considerations

Datasheet writing

In this project week, you have the opportunity to claim the “Datasheet writing” skill at knowledge level. To claim this skill, you must create a datasheet for the device you have designed in this project.

This datasheet must include:

  • General description of the device.
  • Relevant specifications of the device (Electrical, mechanical, environmental).
  • Key performances of the device with relevant units and tolerances.
  • If relevant, Interfaces and connections.
  • If relevant, a functional Block diagram.
  • If relevant, pin configuration.
  • If relevant, electrical and timing characteristics.
  • Version/revision control.
  • If relevant Safety and standard compliance.
  • Concise text.
  • Labelled, titled, and numbered figures with units on axis.
  • Labelled, titled, and numbered tables if relevant.
  • Numbered equations if relevant.

You can find relevant information to create this datasheet in the lecture about “Reading and writing a datasheet” of week 11 on Moodle.

Time Management

In this project week, you have the opportunity to claim the “Time management” skill at knowledge level. To claim this skill, you must include a Gantt chart of the project.

This Gantt chart should include:

  • List of the different tasks/steps of the project.
  • A relevant division of time of the project.
  • A relevant allocation of time for each of the tasks of the project.
  • If relevant, it needs to show the dependencies between tasks with arrows on the Gantt chart.
  • If possible, the people allocated to each task and the effort (in time) for each people on the task.
  • If possible, you can show different version of your Gantt chart, the initial one at the beginning of the project and an Updated one at the end of the project and you can discuss the reason of the differences.

You can find more information about how to create a Gantt chart in the lecture about “Effiective Time Management” of week 11 on Moodle.

Other

In this project week, you also have the opportunity to claim the “Problem solving”, “Effective project management” and the “Effective teamwork” skills at application level. This project is relevant for you to include all those topics in your project week management and ultimately in your portfolio.
