The
constraint modelling software
can
make use of solid objects. These are provided by the ACIS core
solid modeller which is supplied by Spatial Technology Incorporated.
This core modeller allows boundary representation objects to be
defined and manipulated. It is used as the modeller by a number
of commercial CAD supplier companies.
In the constraint modelling software, the core modeller sits alongside
the simple wire- frame entities generated by the software itself.
Additions have been made to the constraint modeller user language
so that solid objects can be created and displayed. The usual
Boolean operations are also available via the language as are
some of the more advanced interrogation techniques supported by
ACIS.
As it is possible to save an ACIS body in a generic from of data
file, it is possible to export results from the constraint modeller
directly into a (compatible) CAD system for further work such
as embodiment design. Similarly, imports to the constraint modeller
can be made from such external software.
