The application forms below can be used to apply for access to the University's HPC system "nimbus". To get an initial allocation of compute units, all you need to do is fill out a short google form which captures your requirements. If you want to make more use of nimbus, you can request additional resources with the application forms provided below. The maximal amount of resources you can apply for is described below. You should always discuss your application with your supervisor, who will also have to provide a brief support statement in case you apply for a "Heavy Compute" allocation. The details you provide on the forms help us to support your use of nimbus, so please be as specific as possible when answering the questions. More information on nimbus can be found at here. For any questions, contact Eike Mueller at e.mueller@bath.ac.uk
Once your resource allocation on nimbus has been created you should request on-boarding as described at this link.
Every SAMBa student (including SAMBa aligned) is automatically entitled to an allocation worth GBP 350 on nimbus. This is mainly to test, develop and improve code and to gather evidence for its efficiency, which can then be used to apply to further computational resources. To request the Starter Allocation please fill out the google form
You can request an additional GBP 700 to carry out computationally intensive runs. To apply for this kind of allocation you need to provide evidence that you have taken steps towards making your code efficient, e.g. by running it in parallel. You also have to demonstrate that you attended relevant training, in particular the HPC Introduction course run in Bath or the Scientific Computing Unit (MA40177). To request the Upgrade Allocation please fill out the google form (if you haven't done so already) as well as Sections A and B of the application form.
Any requests for additional resources require further authorisation by the SAMBa management team. To apply, state why you need those additional resources and include a statement by your supervisor.
To request the Heavy Compute Allocation please fill out the google form (if you haven't done so already) and fill out Sections A, B and C of the application form and have your supervisor fill out section D.
