Professor Aggarwal received his BEng and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Liverpool in 1970 and 1973 respectively and joined the University of Bath thereafter, where he is now Head of the Power and Engineering Systems Group, Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Apart from his teaching and administrative duties, Professor Aggarwal is very actively involved in research within the Group. He is currently an investigator on twelve major EPSRC research grants in collaboration with industry and many of the techniques developed have culminated in commercial products now marketed by major manufacturing companies in the UK. He has presented numerous papers on his research throughout the world.

He is the author of over 300 refereed technical papers, co-editor/co-author of five textbooks and was the recipient of two IEE Crompton Premium awards for papers in 1983 and 1995. His main areas of research interest are in Power System modelling, digital protection and fibre optical communications, application of Artificial Intelligence to Power System protection, condition monitoring and control, the quality reliability of electrical power, and the impact of small scale generation (including renewables) on power system networks. He has been a member of the various IEE Professional Groups (9 and 11) in Power Systems. Prof. Aggarwal is a Fellow of the IEE, Senior member of the IEEE and a member of several CIGRE WGs on Power Systems Protection and Control.
