Our work is primarily concerned with the synthesis and
characterisation of small molecules in order to address issues concerning
their structure, bonding, reactivity and potential application. All areas
have a predominant synthetic component, much of which is carried out using
Schlenk, glovebox and vacuum line techniques. The major techniques for
elucidation of chemical structure and molecular dynamics are low-temperature
X-ray and neutron diffraction, and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. These
are supplemented by other techniques including variable-concentration cryoscopy,
differential scanning calorimetry, mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy.
Complementary ab initio and DFT calculations provide further insight into
bonding and reactivity. The group has a well equipped laboratory and academic
and industrial collaborations in the UK, Europe and North America. I would
be delighted to discuss any aspect of our research further so please don't
hesitate to contact me. |
