The development of manufacturing systems involving DES require innovative engineering solutions to deal with their frequently high viscosity (~700 cP). Torrente’s group has set the foundations of a new manufacturing technology for continuous synthesis of nanoparticles with exquisite size control, in the absence of capping stabilising agents while preventing fouling and blockage of the micro-channels. Building on this new approach, reactor geometry will be tailored to promote the onset of gentle transitional flows allowing us to provide highly controlled reaction conditions for nanoparticle synthesis and organometallic reactions in DES, in flow.
