Deep eutectic solvents

Deep eutectic solvents (DES) have recently emerged as sustainable alternatives to water and organic solvents in science and technology. Our aim is to develop the synthesis of functional nanomaterials by using DES as templating media. This systematic study aims to combine fundamental insights into the understanding of the unique solvent structure of DES, alongside the self-assembly of amphiphilic molecules in these novel green media. A detailed molecular-scale picture will be drawn of DES and their ability to promote spontaneous self-assembly, by gathering together techniques including small-angle scattering, reflectivity, and wide Q-range neutron diffraction.
