Naomi Elstone

At the Neutron and Muon User Meeting 2016

Naomi “Nom” graduated from the University of Bath with an MChem degree in 2014. During her undergrad, she spent a year on placement with the agrochemical company, Syngenta, where she carried out research into Pickering emulsions. In her final year she undertook a project with Prof. Karen Edler investigating the interactions of PEI with sulfobetaine monolayers. The research sparked her interest in soft matter chemistry and in 2015 she joined the ERG through the Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Chemical Technologies working on the development of green surfactants. Naomi came to embrace the demands of a scattering based PhD and the lack of sleep this entails.

Nom’s work was overseen by Dr. Simon Lewis and Prof. David Leak (both Bath), in addition to Prof. Karen Edler.

Outside of the lab she enjoys cooking, baking the odd pavolva (with not a soggy bottom in sight!) and all things fluffy.
