George Neville

In 2014, George joined the University of Bath, where he would first encounter Prof. Karen Edler during his final MChem project making nanodiscs fluoresce. As he loved Bath so much (…and because he didn’t feel quite ready to get a real job just yet…), he stayed on at the university, joining the doctoral training centre in Sustainable Chemical Technologies. Working on both the functionalisation of polymer nanodiscs as membrane protein supports, as well as developing his own novel forming method for hydrogen-adsorbent composites, George was so inspired that he felt certain he would become a nanotechnologist.

Since, George has formally joined the ERG for his PhD, continuing his work on the optimisation of polymer structures for the surface-immobilisation of membrane proteins. Co-supervised by Prof. Gareth Price (Chemistry), Dr. Pedro Estrela (Electronic & Electrical Engineering), and Dr. Paul Whitley (Biology) - unknowingly referred to as the biotech dream team! - George is confident that he will make it through to the other side in one piece. When not working quite as hard as he probably should be, you will likely find him out walking through the countryside, looking for somewhere slightly more picturesque than the lab to tuck himself away with a good book.
