PhD “Interactions in Colloidal Systems” 1995-2001
- I undertook novel research in the field of colloid science, involving both theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry and physics.
- During my research I discovered it was more productive, and more interesting, to collaborate with other scientists and I also made use of the facilities of various external research centres, particularly during a number of visits to Amsterdam and Grenoble.
- I presented one aspect of my work at the 216th American Chemical Society Conference in Boston, USA in August 1998. I have written a few papers, published in esteemed chemistry and physics journals.
- In addition to improving my logical and analytical skills, during this time I also learned to work independently, I improved my organizational skills, and increased my mental persistence and endurance!
BSc in Chemistry with Computing (2:1) 1992-1995
Chemistry Department, UMIST
- My most enjoyable final year courses included Chaos in Chemistry, Neural Networks, Quantum Mechanics and Artificial Intelligence.
- My final year project was the construction of the first "Internet Zeolite Database" which later inspired a number of official versions.
Previous studies 1995-1999
Bury Church of England High School & Bury College
- I achieved ten GCSE’s grades A-C and four A-levels:
- Chemistry (B)
- Business Studies (C)
- Mathematics (B)
- General Studies(C)
