Jurassic Park & The Land Before Time (Week 1)

Postby ziza » Wed Oct 05, 2011 4:11 pm

What did everyone think of our opening "Dino Night" films?

I was happy that I didn't feel the need to run and hide while watching Jurassic Park though all the "suspense-suddenly, raptor" bits were still scary. The effects, CGI, animatronics, have aged very well. Better than some recent films I've seen. They really went after realism.

Haven't watched Land Before TIme in ages either so it was good to see it again. :)

My sister and I love the Jurrassic Park series, especially the Raptors of course! In the 2nd one, with the scene in the long grass :O eeee so good!
but yes, the original Jurrassic Park still has its magic, from the epic music to the iconic scenes (kitchen scene used to be the scariest when I was younger O.O)
only thing that always gets me is how they change Malcom's character from a ''rock star'' to a neurotic worrier in the second one :S the mix of characters is so good in the original!

The Land Before Time shown was actually the only one of the however many I've managed to see... and I love how it manags to be cute and fun whilst teaching valuable life lessons to children and all that :P honestly though, some sad moments (chasing shadows :'( ) and pretty sweet characters (Ducky and Peetreeeeeee!) not too long either O.o

I loved both of these when I was a kid. Not as keen on either now, but they both have their moments.

I know the effects in Jurassic Park are fairly convincing but...the characters aren't so much... I like the mathematician dude (even if his explanation of chaos theory was quite silly...), but the rest of the characterisations are either annoying (especially the hacker man who steals the vials) or just not very interesting. And the build up is kind of painful... I do love the scene with the raptors in the kitchen though, damn that's tense! I also like the t-rex chase.

The Land Before Time is almost ridiculously adorable at points. I do tend to find the bluntly stated "Power of friendship" stuff and such quite cloying, and at times the mannerisms of some of the dinos got a tad irritating, but in general I liked it. Yup yup yup.

We have all seen that diagram SO. MANY. TIMES.

Doesn't make it any less cool, however :P

And I find most animation aimed at younger folks tend to exaggerate characteristics, and tend also to make 2D characters that express maybe one or two things, like Spike for being lazy and nomming everything (nommy?) and Cera for being brave and determined :P I think maybe its so children can identify with them easier/ find their favourites without a lot of other stuff getting in the way :P maybe. Would be interesting to scope out ^_^

Mind. Blown. :o

I always thought her name was just Sarah, and found it weird that they gave her a human name. This makes so much more sense!

Also, if Wikipedia is to be trusted, apparently Ducky comes from the thing that Saurolophus is a genus of (large hadrosaurine duckbill). Or something like that. Biological terms confuse me... :P
