Too early, sorry - we can't really make exceptions. It was screened in second semester of my first year (and I'm now in my 3rd).

Which is unfortunate as I really wanted to see it. I'll try and have a look at those suggestions in 7 hour gap today!

Just looked over some of those anime! Wow, they look really good! Especially Darker than Black, and Ergo Proxy.

By the way, who are you Penguin? Our introductions page is looking a little empty!

Hehe, all I know about Princess Tutu is from this rather awesome (?) AMV.

You'll mainly find me at Anime, but also at some of the Classic and Contemporary screenings. I'm usually in the student centre before screenings too.

I would, but I have an allergic reaction to spoilers of any sort unfortunately.

(The reaction being to cry out in agony and then try to forget the spoiler, but in the process remembering all the other spoilers i've heard. Bah)

Baccano [13 episodes +3 specials]
Difficult to describe, but involves copious amounts of crazyawesome, two feuding Mafia groups, alchemists searching for the elixir of life, a train robbery, kidnapping, the funniest pair of theives that you will ever see, and their horrendous attempts at logic. Oh, and it makes Haruhi's broadcast order and Memento look chronological.

FLCL [6 episodes]
If you thought other series were random, or made on drugs, you have yet to see this. It has been said that if you wish to understand FLCL watch it from beginning to end: The desire will pass. Giant Iron Factories, enough symbolism to make freud pass out in horror, guitars as weapons (cue blunt instrument pun), parodies of pretty much everything, from evangelion to south park... I think there's a heartwarming coming of age type story in there... somewhere...

Haruhi Chan [25 ~5 min episodes]
For those who've seen Haruhi, its a crazy self-parody of the series and a few others that doesn't really make much sense, but is very entertaining. Featuring parodies of various scenes in the anime, Yuki Nagato, basketball, the true meaning of christmas, chibi Ryouko, Yuki Nagato, the lesser known haruhi song as its opening, and almost as many shoutouts as lucky star.

oh and I second Darker than Black. tis a good anime.

and maybe a few more i'll add later

What's the general plot? I'm open to most of anime, but curious as to what this is like!

Also welcome to the forums! See my Signature for a link to our introductions page!

It's about the main male and female protagonist Ryūji Takasu(male) and Taiga Aisaka(female) who both have crushes on each other's friends. The plot revolves around how they help each other to get closer to the other one's friend but finally found out that they were actually in love with each other.

Ryūji Takasu: Despite his gentle personality, his eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent, so he is utterly hopeless about his chances of getting a girlfriend anytime soon, and does not have many close friends.
His best friend Yūsaku Kitamura and a girl he has a crush on, Minori Kushieda is Taiga's friend.

Taiga Aisaka: Has a negative attitude towards others and will not hesitate to snap at people. After meeting Ryūji, she takes an instant dislike to him. Taiga comes from a rich family, but she has moved out to live on her own due to family issues. She likes Yūsaku Kitamura and is great friends with Minori Kushieda.

They live close to each other and that's how they can come together and discuss plans on helping each other out.

There are a lot of event happening in between and it's a good anime with a good plot.
(general love stories usually revolve around childhood friends but this one doesn't!!) lolz :P
26 episodes of excitement and it's quite addictive.

Toradora sounds good! We had something similar on a while back called Lovely Complex that I couldn't pull myself away from!

Narutaru [13 episodes]
A cheerful comedy anime, that deconstructs pokemon. Childish, but a good watch, especially if you're feeling a little down and want to cheer up. Watch the opening for a good impression of what to expect. The story centres around a girl who discovers a cute starfish shaped critter and the comical situations they get into together.

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu [12 episodes]
the lighter and softer sequel to the first season of full metal panic, but you dont really need to have seen it to watch fumoffu, which is a highschool comedy for the most part, and all of the macha have been removed. Instead, we get Bonta-kun. Episodes are usually self contained and unrelated to other ones, sometimes containing two seperate storylines. The two main characters are Chidori: a normal highschool student, and Souske: her bodyguard who has access to explosives and military weaponry, but has almost no experience of normal life.
^will add tropes later... *cough* i mean links... yes... links...

Huh, interesting link. Here are my comments on the stuff that I've seen from that list:

-Revolutionary Girl Utena: I watched some 20-odd episodes of this, then dropped it because... I don't know, I guess I just got bored of it. Weird, because it came highly recommended as one of the classics.

-Elfen Lied: I believe most people who watch anime regularly have seen at least the first episode of Elfen Lied (I think it's because of the highly attractive name). I personally got through the entire series (that being said, it was one of the first anime I had ever seen, and so was not quite used to the gore... yet). I should probably give it another try.

-Nadia-Secret of Blue Sea: AWESOME! I love this anime! It's a bit too long for our screenings (52 episodes, I think?), but anyone who gets the chance should watch this! Note that it does drag a bit towards the middle, but other than those few filler-ish episodes, this is an excellent show!

-Slayers: Has been mentioned in this thread, has been screened before; still, one of my absolute favourite animes.

...

I haven't seen that much Sci-fi/fantasy anime, have I? *goes to watch Trigun*

Hi! I've made like a list of animes I would like to watch (some more serious and some more funny), in order of preference:
- Planetes (26 ep.)
- Soul Eater (51 ep. ups, too much)
- Excel Saga (26 ep.)
- Noir (26 ep.)
- Monster (74 ep. so I must forget this one XD)
- Samurai champloo (26 ep.)
- Canaan (13 ep.)

I would also like to watch some of the previous animes suggested:
- Ergo Proxy
- Full Metal panic? Fumoffu!
- Darker than black
- Claymore

This is my first time in the forum but I wanted to give my opinion and I'll try to enter more often to see what's decided ^^. Bye!

Woo! My nomination (Moribito: Guardian on the Spirit) is on there (listed as Seirei no Moribito)!

This is what they have to say;

Based on a series of novels by Nahoko Ueshashi and known as Guardian of the Spirit in English, this is the story of a bodyguard named Balsa working off the karmic debt of the man who raised her. Her "one last job" arrives in the form of Prince Chagum, a twelve-year-old boy whose body carries a water spirit that may bring drought to the New Yogo Empire. Balsa agrees to protect the boy despite knowing that his death will save her adopted country. It's a lifetime appointment, and the solitary spear-wielder finds herself confronted with both the new expectations of adoptive motherhood and the old demands of her battle-weary conscience.

There are a lot of pronouns to remember, but the series itself is easy on the eyes and the mind. This isn't to say that it's insipid -- far from it. This a smart series that asks hard questions about the nature of power and the value of sacrifice. But the real pleasure of watching it is discovering the painstaking worldbuilding and design, and watching Balsa and Chagum re-discover themselves through and with each other. (Don't look at me that way; this is a very clean show, aside from the occasional impaling by spear.) It's a fantasy series that doesn't feel like a fantasy series: there are no saving throws and no real villains, either. Each character's actions make sense in context, even when the viewer finds them abhorrent. If you enjoyed Princess Mononoke for its moral difficulty, natural beauty, and precise detail, this is the series for you.

Of what else is on that list I've seen Elfen Lied which I don't like much (don't get me wrong - I love gore! but the tone of the show is all over the place and doesn't work for me at all) and a few episodes of Black Lagoon which I was liking quite a bit...don't know why I didn't watch more :?

That's a nice list of underrated animes, but please list any you'd like to see in this thread (as others have) otherwise I won't count them.

here's some more anime that may or may not have already been mentioned:

Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan - watch the opening for an overview. in the future, a guy invents a lolicon machine. Sent back in time to kill him before making his invention is Dokuro chan, a tsundere/yandere? angel, who at some point before the series starts, decided not to kill him. permanantly...

Index - a city full of children with psychic powers, adults who like to meddle in things they shouldn't, incredibly powerful magic in the hands of the religions... what could possibly go wrong... a generally awesome anime.

Seto no Hanayome - mermaid yakuza comedy with enough parody and shoutouts to rival lucky star. And it even has a plot... I think...

Vampire Knight - insert twilight comparison here

Unfortunately, we can't get the DVDs for this (unless you're volunteering to buy and import them from Japan), it's a good series but I preferred Railgun myself. Need to catch up with Index's second season at some point, only on the first episode!

dang, you're right. both railgun and index are licensed to FUNimation in the US, but hasn't actually been released there yet. Must have misread that when I was looking through anime.. *sigh*
