I guess I'll brush off the tumbleweed, and launch myself in here!

Hey all, I am a new arrival at Bath, just starting a postgrad course in the CSCT (based in Dept of Chem), and a rabid sci-fi fan, hence why I am here!

I am most intrigued by three screenings a week, I am only used to one! Still, can't have too many sci-fi films I guess.

Aside from that, I am generally interested in RPGs, I played Traveller and Dark Heresy at my previous uni, and have GMed and played Paranoia. Few bits of other stuff here and there as well, most interested in Rogue Trader and Deathwatch for a start (for rather obvious reasons).

Generally speaking I can be talked into most sci-fi things given a half decent excuse, which is always a bad thing, but there we go.

Look forward to joining and meeting you all (whenever I get registration and so on and so forth done - they have us running like hamsters in wheels this week!)

Nice to meet you, Luke!

Most folks only come to one or two screenings per week, but we do have a hardcore group of regulars who come to all three - they know who they are! It's tricky to fit in all three after first year though...dread to think what it'd be like with a PhD to do.

We also have plenty of RPG-mad members who'll make themselves known to you, I'm sure. :D

Hi Luke! Nice to see you! Glad to see we have some Sci-Fi nuts here :D If you don't mind me using that term! I also plan to go to more screenings than is safe or even sensible!

Hope to see you :)

Hi I'm Holly - a postgrad with SPS. My undergraduate degree was in archaeology which explains my love of sci-fi (they don't let you in unless you own a pair of wellies, a trowel and profess to being at least slightly geeky)

Am very impressed with the forum and three screenings a week, as my last uni's society could just about get it together to hold one every fortnight.

I look forward to meeting you all at the screenings next week, once the craziness of induction is over!

Wow! Archeology sounds like great fun. sorry we don't have a department (Archeology) like you might have seen in Bone Kickers.

SPS is Social and Policy Sciences right? Nice to have a good mix of people in the soc :D

Haha Bone Kickers was hilariously inaccurate - it provided a houseful of bored archaeolgists with hours of entertainment :D

and yes I was lurking about this afternoon!

It was good fun though I had no idea about how inaccurate it was.

When were you about, did you have a guess on our sweeties jar?

Yes I did - was wondering about with a few people from postgrad sociology and social policy.

Bonekickers was great although everyday archaeology is more about paperwork, flint and mud than was shown and much less excitement. But I guess that that doesn't make interesting television. Although saying that my specialism was human remains and forensics, which is pretty exciting (at least to my warped and morbid mind!)

Ahh then I saw you! Cool beans.

Also, does this make you a fan of Bones (TV programme) or the Kathy Reichs books? I found the books main character a bit of a Mary Sue, but the show quite interesting.

Not a huge fan of Kathy Reichs, Bones is good but kind of spoilt for me as I can't stop thinking of David Boreanaz as Angel from Buffy. Silent Witness is awesome though, do you watch it?

Absolutely agreed. I like Bones herself, though. I've probably only seen 5 or 6 episodes total, but with all these things I love watching them from the start and buying box sets...and doing this for all the series I like gets very expensive, very quickly.

That is the problem I have too! Silent witness is good as well as Waking the Dead.

I have to second the problem with boxsets! Though looking some up now....

Hi there, I'm Will, an undergraduate Maths student.

I'm generally pretty quiet out in the real world, but I'm not trying to be rude or anything I just don't have a lot to say (though will listen to what other people have to say for ages quite contently).

I love anime but have watched very, very little. As a massive cinephiliac I can happily rank Miyazaki among my favourite directors (and Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro among my favourite films). As far as series go, as I say I've watched little but I love The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (points to username), The Twelve Kingdoms and the first season of School Rumble (haven't seen the latter seasons yet). I'll probably be attending all the Friday anime sessions and a few of the films.

Looking forward to meeting you :)

Hi Will! I'm also a Maths student, and there are lots within the society - plenty of people to borrow notes off/get tips off if you need them. We also have lots and lots of quiet people in the society, so no worries about that, either.

Look forward to meeting you soon.

I'll be going to a few too if I can squeeze it in, can't wait to see you at one of the screenings!

Fun fact(s): Haruhi and My Neighbour Totoro where both screened during last year and Spritied Away is being screened this year :). Depending how members vote for the Semester 2 screenings, more Ghibli is a strong possibility.

Haruhi was the first anime I ever saw and it encouraged me to watch more (a lot more!). See you at the screenings!
Former SciFi IT Officer now taking great pleasure in telling the current committee that they're doing it all wrong and that they should get off my lawn.
You'll mainly find me at Anime, but also at some of the Classic and Contemporary screenings. I'm usually in the student centre before screenings too.

Hello, new member here! My name's Shaun, just started on my third year aerospace engineering! I'm not too much a Sci-Fi fan, but have been into anime since around 2006 (though I've not watched much recently). Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting you guys this Friday!

Will be good to meet some of the people going to anime, as I'm pretty new (started watching in my first year...2007? I forget!).

What's your favourite anime you've seen? And do we really not have any other screenings that tickle your fancy? :P :P
