*cries* I missed the forums thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssssss much, it's amazing how attached I'd got in a short time.

On the color of magic I thought it was a pretty good dramatisation, although I missed a few of the best bits out of the book, like the temple of BelShamharoth (or however it's spelt) but all in all it was rather fun. That said I watched it over 2 days when it was originally on sky, broken up by ad breaks so it might have got a bit repetative in the new showings

Actually, it worked very well as a double bill - we had a nice little break in the middle so our heads did not asplode.

Plus, Twoflower was almost exactly right. Rincewind was quite good. That is all.

Ah, but were not the amazing new forums worth the small wait? (And the four months of my life I'll never see again?)

I saw the first part on Sky and wasn't very impressed at all, but this time it seemed a lot better. I think Rincewind should have been taller.

Twoflower should have been younger, Rincewind should have been older, they shouldn't have tried to cram one book per "episode" - Hogfather worked so well split over two....

Interesting you say that, there were comments going around the Sci Fi house that Rincewind was too old. But this is possibly because many of us picture Rincewind as the character from the games.

I watched this on Sky and I think Rincewind came across as a bit too well groomed and jolly. Twoflower's mastery of Morporkian spoiled it a bit too, they should've just had subtitles for him .

My images of Rincewind come more from the picture books (I forget who drew them, possibly Kirby) so he was too dumpy and not tall enough, also aggree with the too old, however Del-boy did guarentee a certain type of people watching the film

You also have to ignore the fact that David Jason was Death's assistant in Hogfather (I think they re-used other characters too.) If they're going to keep making Discworld adaptations (apparently Going Postal is next on the list) then they're going to have to start thinking about continuity.

Considering I actually quite enjoyed this, I've found an awful lot to complain about.

Indeed! I also very much missed the forums, but liking the new layout so far (four months? I am awed by your perseverance...)!

Also, yes, if everything Sci-Fi showed wasn't picked apart by its members, it wouldn't be right. It is also perfectly acceptable to like things despite acknowledging their glaring flaws. I can't bring myself to hate Keanu Reeves, for example. I think the decision to re-use cast members was a frankly terrible one, regardless of how well they may have been able to fit the characters - surely someone closer to fans' expectations (even just "not Albert from Hogfather") could have been found? Not to discredit David's performance, he got Rincewind down pretty much, but maybe he wasn't the best choice for the role. Likewise Banjo-not-Banjo, etc.

Still, I liked it. John Cleese makes an excellent talking sword.

i always pictured him as kinda mid to late twenties in colour of magic.

I haven't read The Colour of Magic, but wasn't the whole point was that he was there for a very, very long time, but couldn't pass any of the exams because the "Great Spell" or whatever made him forget all the other spells, but he was kept there to keep the book happy, and also to make sure he wasn't let out into the world and the spell let loose.

yes, he had been there quite a while, but then it is stated somewhere that the usual starting age at UU is about 7.
and, someone will probably correct me, but i think he was actually expelled after reading the octavo not "kept around" and, even if it isn't actually stated, i always infer that this was relatively recent

Yes, by recollection of the book is rather dim, but I seem to recall he was an ex-UU student for some time, although how this fits with him getting roped into leading Twoflower around I don't know. I always imagined him like Kidby draws him; both aged and preserved by constant terror.

That's strange, as the show even has the Chancellor (I think that was the word) say that he forgot why they kept Rincewind around for so long, and then when the Octov starts acting up (which only happens when Rincewind leaves) reminds him because he had the Great Spell in his head (which is also why he couldn't make a good wizard, because otherwise without the spell he might have been allright).
