What's Your Username Story?

Postby Dreya Krekken » Sat Oct 25, 2008 1:48 pm

As a getting to know you kind of thing, I'm interested in finding out why people have the usernames they have.

Dreya Krekken is the name of my necromancer character on Guild Wars, and she's just fun.

Anime_Rpg is my username elsewhere and I'm starting to use it more often. It's quite a good way of describing me. Me - Anime, Games (most types of games: board, card, console (but then minus some like shooting) and most other fun game things), reading, hanging out with friends, and Fun in general.

Lina was applied to me the first time we ever watched Slayers, because I apperently resemble her..

I dp have slight violent tendancies, a bit of temper, often beat up robin (if you know him you understand) and wish I could blow up places/people that annoy me but that's not so similar is is?. Since I'd never had a nickname before it stuck. I now have to explain to my new/normal friends why my MSN name is Lina...

If Lilly ever shows up I shall explain her at the time, she is currently bound deep inside my mind, Xan's voices tend to rub off on people.

Moltare is my handle everywhere, and a town in Canada, and nothing else.

Every letter in it is a reference to a character I have written in the past, and the whole is a character I write now.

Was watching an Episode of the Simpson's where Homer offers eternal happiness for $1 under the company name "happydude", I've used it as a username ever since.

Cold Fire was unashamedly stolen from a ST: Voyager episode name.

I was looking for a new callsign for multiplayer flight sims, and I had the Star Trek Encyclopedia to hand so just went down the list and "Cold Fire" stuck out as being rather good.

Previous callsigns (to name but many) have included:

Fireflash
Dodgy Bob
Typhoon
Desperate Intruder (Thunderbirds episode, don't ask)
Last Hope
Moonlight Shadow

I never used that as a callsign - that came about as a result of Dresari. Same deal for Jarak, Loukakis and Contessa di Contini (really don't ask)

Oh, I forgot "Foregone Conclusion".

elvor is a much truncated version of a random name from NWN. I've been using it since forever. The small 'e' is important, too. :P

Chronocide - the act of killing time. Speaks for itself really.

the fact it's spelt with an s just reflects on my bad typing.

Ok, now why don't we also write our names as we explain our usernames ;).

Just to help me out :P.

My nick animiain ought to be obvious for me :).

But where's the fun it that? Guessing/calling people by their users is the most fun bit ^_^

Yeah but I'm trying to remember people from the club, associating names to faces, I don't mind associating usernames to faces, but at least something to associate them so I remember who they are :P.

Just be thankful that no one had abbreviated everything this year; when I first joined the forums it was EP this, and CF that and I had enough trouble remembering what the usernames were, let alone who they actually belonged to...

I can think ColdFire for CF, can't think of EP, and this year it's giving everyone nicknames instead, like animiain and Dreychel.

You'd be forgiven not knowing EP, it stands for Enigma Prime, who is a guy who graduated at the end of last year. :) I may even have deleted his user account because he's stopped using it.

Unfortunately not as I was busy on those days. Also I have seen Enigma Primes name about.

I think it was mostly a case of usernames getting too long to bother typing in all the time, and as there was a cire of us I think it was mainly Lina (i.e. me), CF, EP, Xan and a few others such as Jimmy and Toastie, which are shorter and easier to spell.

This is Sci-Fi; words with more than two syllab- syll-ab- yeah, they confuse us.

I think I win in the abbreviation stakes :P
