Website Suggestions

Postby Xanthipe » Sun Aug 27, 2006 2:01 pm

In the upcoming redesign of the forums, is there anything you want adding in?

I have suggested a Member's Creativity section for stories, artwork, songs, whatever on the society themes - this includes the DnD fics (although the rude ones will not be included).

Cast your votes please ^_^
A castle with an army of loyal soldiers willing to die furthering your evil causes? Good. The same castle able to roll around of its own volition, raining lasery death upon those who oppose you? Much, much better.

fish! really sounds like a plan, i like the new site design btw, although the text size is quite large, especially like the mini cifi logos for the post symbols ^_^

Which, the text on the forum or on the website?

I know I have to fix the website a bit still - checked it on my work comp to look at the different res sizes, found a few bits that need tweaking.

Forums template will change a bit more still, but glad you like what I've done so far ^_^

EDIT: One other thing - everyone who put a webpage on their forum profile, that page has been put as a link in Members' Sites on the website - is this okay?

text in teh forums is too big, also would it be possible to lighten teh green a few notches as it canbe quite hard to read on teh background.

If you like I can send a mail to everyone asking if they are OK with that, although i've got to work out how to send group emails first...

It was 4 people - me, you, Jimmy and Rob. I can probably just ask people tonight.

Is the green really that bad?

Green is borderline visible. I can see it fine, but some people might not be able to... maybe....

I might be changing colour scheme completely anyway - Robin finally gave in his design. I will be asking for opinions tonight, hopefully, depending on mother.

If you have time at work, could you compare the sites at:

http://people.bath.ac.uk/su8scifi/dev/
http://people.bath.ac.uk/su8scifi/dev2/

and rate them for:

Overall look (colours, graphics etc)
Accessibility (ease of use for everybody)
Practicality (ability to change design with minimal effort later etc)
Suitability (which fits the 'mission statement' better)

Cheers ^_^

right: logo/splash is buggered on both of them

your webpage is easier to read, the link names on the orange one need to be bigger or just more readable, I like the ofnt though. i also find the graphic rather messy, it needs to be much cleaner. I know this was the idea but I also find it a bit confusing to look at. The little logo on the page is nice though. If you oculd clrean up the graphic and fade it out at the botom it would be better, I have no idea how hard that is.

Your site i find much plainer (not a bad thing!) and easier to use. I also prefer the colour scheme. The title across the top is really nice, definately needed on the other page as it frames the thing nicely. the other nice thing is the page dosnt' just stop, as the botom of the menu bar is open neded it doesnt' feel like the text is going on too long.

Sorry to say this to robin but your idea seems far more inkeeping with the theme of scifi, i find it much more accessable to use and it doesn't feel like you'e just scanned the graphic into the computer and chucked them together. The only critisism i have is the green doesn't contrast much with the black, i have friends i know have problems reading something like that.

kindah a ramble i know but see what you cna make of it.

I shall pass this on to Robin - we should be communicating tonight, but I don't know if I'll be online yet because of mother arrival.

Front pages are buggered because I didn't bother to copy the images folder across when I set up the devs. My bad.

Robin is changing the bottom of the graphic so it's less abrupt, it was something we discussed last night (at 10:45pm  ). I can change the greens easily though - something more yellowy do?

I haven't changed it here yet, but I've changed it on my site.

Also, I've put in the newest version of Robin's graphic, and done some work to standardise the size of the committee pics.

Guess it's not a surprise that fish is currently winning the poll...

I preferred the first site on all counts. The second one is kinda cool, but the first one is easier to use, and fits with scifi better. Although the second one does have the whole "chaos" thing going for it...
