Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Ghost in the Shell

The long title prevents me from adding in the week and date - Week 19, 12/2/2011

I was really looking forward to seeing both of these well-known classics however they didn't entirely live up to expectations. They where certainly good, just not as good as I was hoping.

That said, I was extremely impressed by Ghost in the Shell's visual quality considering how old it is - even today quite a few shows don't come close to the quality of visuals that GitS had.

Reason: How on earth did I mistype 'today' as 'toward' ?!
Former SciFi IT Officer now taking great pleasure in telling the current committee that they're doing it all wrong and that they should get off my lawn.
You'll mainly find me at Anime, but also at some of the Classic and Contemporary screenings. I'm usually in the student centre before screenings too.

Both were rewatches for me.

I didn't love Nausicaa as much second time round as I did first time round, but I'm still very, very fond of it. It's a tad cheesy (some of those music choices...) but utterly charming and has the most wonderful world to explore.

Ghost in the Shell I've gotta say I still don't get. The first time round I found all the philosophising kinda clunky and like wading through treacle and this time is no different. I mean, I enjoy it quite a bit and love those little musical interludes where we're shown the city and such, but Blade Runner approaches similar themes in a far more effective manner in my opinion...

Nausicaa was far more enjoyable for me than Gits, despite what I was expecting.

And yes I think blade runner covers this stuff much better....
