Spice and Wolf (November 26th - 3rd December 2010)

I've read the original Light Novels (well, all the translated ones anyway) and loved them, but had never seen the anime myself. As I loved the original material and the anime is highly rated, I figured i'd slip it in to the screenings schedule ;)

I think a lot of people where looking forward to this based upon the turnout, but what did everyone think? While there are a few differences from the original light novel (e.g. they replaced Yarei with Chloe in the anime) I still enjoyed it.

You'll mainly find me at Anime, but also at some of the Classic and Contemporary screenings. I'm usually in the student centre before screenings too.

Forgiving the economics lessons (which I'll confess flew straight over my head ), I really enjoyed the first week of Spice and Wolf. Certainly the best week of anime that I've attended this semester.

And I was rather fond of the closing song, as it happens...

it was great, and the engrish ending was awesome (for trolling the society if not for the hilarious lyrics themselves).

Its been quite a while since I saw the first series, but it was even better I remember. Everything's so much better in the anime screnings =P

The first plot arc (plot? in my anime?!? absurdity!) was quite gripping when you consider it was based almost entirely on economics.

and I see your rank and avatar have changed yet again kingsley :P

Of course ;) . I'm attempting to change my avatar and rank based on the current anime screening.

As a forewarning, the second plot arc (which adapts Volume 2 of the light novel) contains more economics, but different theories! I'll admit that on my first read through of the books I didn't entirely get the economic concepts, but on subsequent readings (and viewing the anime the other night) it made a lot more sense. It's pretty amazing that most people are able to enjoy the plot without understanding the economic principles behind it!

I'm not a huge fan of the ending song myself, but it grows on you. The group that did it, Rocky Chack, also did the Season 2 ending theme which in my opinion far surpasses the Season 1 ending song. As for the opening, I think it's an absolutely beautiful song, one of my favourites.

No views on the second week? I thought that the 2nd arc's finale was certainly more 'epic' than the 1st arc. The whole "say my name" scene at the end was pretty hilarious too.

For those that liked the series and want to read a bit more, the original light novels have been translated up to Volume 2 (Volumes 1 and 2 where adapted into Season 1 of the anime), Volume 3 (covering the first part of Season 2) comes out... today! Amazon have them pretty cheap and free postage so if you enjoyed it I would recommend picking up the light novels.

Sorry, I didn't post anything because I didn't really have a whole lot to say

I enjoyed the second week even more than the first one. Partly for the more epicy feel you mention, partly because the second major story arc felt a bit more satisfying than the first. I'm not a big enough fan to check out the light novels, but this series certainly made for a fun couple Friday evenings :)
