Suggestions for next semester's socials...

Postby Twitchy » Sat Oct 23, 2010 2:42 pm

Hi everyone,

As well as everything we're showing, we also want a packed schedule of socials next semester. Traditionally, there'll probably be a trip to Bristol incorporating a visit to Forbidden Planet, but exactly what we do in Bristol is up to you. There's also a very real prospect that next semester we'll have a society driver or two and be able to go a little off the beaten track.

Ideas fall into four categories:

1) Meals out - there's a great opportunity for a post-exams catch-up session...so where should we go?
2) End of term get-together of some sort.
3) Bristol Trip ideas
4) Something a bit different that we could get to by car.

I've personally been contemplating taking a group of us go-karting on a Tuesday night or Wednesday afternoon, but whatever happens it's likely to be fairly expensive...is that something you guys would like to do?

Save your 'film marathon' suggestions for another thread. :)

I think cross society paint balling would be great! Perhaps between us and Film Soc? Or us and Butts/Buncs?

What about those of us who are members of both? :P

I'm not sure you could get me paintballing. I'd be bruised all over...but if everyone else wants to, that's up to them!

Swap paintballs for lasers and it would be a deal. Not sure what's around here though.

I know FilmSoc are plotting a laser quest social...whether that's something that's a candidate for a joint outing, I don't know. If it's this semester it's almost definitely out, because so much other stuff is on already...

I'm very up for this! I think the rest of the FilmSoc committee would largely agree!

We plan on laser quest at some point too, but trying to figure out how it would work in terms of numbers and transport details/costs to various parts of Bristol. Probably next semester realistically.

These guys. I know it's been talked about before, I've never visited personally though so I can't comment on any allegations of "ultimate adventure" or the like.

I think if we were dividing into teams based on society allegiance, we'd need graphs.

Oh, also these guys, admittedly five times as distant from Temple Meads as Laser Quest (which is still a mile's walk - perhaps a trip to consider when we have some society drivers, eh?).

Edit: Thanks PF! Sorry about that. :S

Tilde, no need to double post!

I've merged your two posts.

Photos from the last SciFi vs. BUNCS paintball session back in 2007.

If there was another SciFi vs. BUNCS paintball session, I wonder who i'd side with - I sit on committee for both!
Former SciFi IT Officer now taking great pleasure in telling the current committee that they're doing it all wrong and that they should get off my lawn.
You'll mainly find me at Anime, but also at some of the Classic and Contemporary screenings. I'm usually in the student centre before screenings too.

Haha, awesome. I never even knew this happened! BUNCS documentations skills >> Sci-fi's

I think I know about 6 people in the sci-fi picture and none of them are around now - unless that's Toaster at the back. I can't be sure...
Actually, that's a lie - there are at least two, possibly three, people who aren't official members of the society this year, but are still in Bath and will likely pop up come the time of the quiz.

This is the main reason I brought it up! I thought it was common knowledge. Fail on my behalf I'm afraid.

paintballing sounds good.

as for meals out, how about wagamama? they sell a variety of japanese food. it's not the same as sushi so theres a wait like a regular resteraunt and there's no awesome food conveyor belt, but the food is great.

or if that's not everyone's thing then there's Pizza Hut. everyone likes pizza :D

Pizza hut might not be the safest place to go...

But I'll take Wagamama's!

I love pizza, but I'm not that keen on Pizza Hut to be honest. Pizza Express is much better...

Wagamamas will go on the list. I'll take some sort of vote on the socials at some point post-quiz and coursework arg-ness.

Going out to place just to eat pizza always seemed kind of silly to me...

Wagamama is AMAZING!!!!! I do love Yo Sushi, but Wagamama is quite a bit better imo. You get more variety at Yo Sushi, but the food quality at Wagamama is awesomely fantastic. I say this as someone who doesn't eat sushi though (which makes quite a bit of the added variety at Yo Sushi fairly redundant) ...

Damn, now I've got yasai katsu curry cravings...
