I *love* this story. I'm extremely proud of it. It's quite long so won't post all of it here but if you'd like to read please let me know and I shall send it to you. Any comments/constructive criticism welcomed.
Also, the reason why I wrote it was for a challenge from my Writers Group in Bristol. They gave me three things that I had to include in my story, can you guess what they were? (And no cheating, people that I've told on MSN!) (Actually, that rules out most of you. :S)
From "The Helment and Teh Unicorn"
Josh dived into the backseat to retrieve their gear and Kate got out of the car, rubbing her cramped legs. She was met by the occupant of the Volvo; a middle aged woman wearing creased trousers and badly applied red lipstick.
“Are you here to see what the geologists find too?” she said eagerly, her head bobbing up and down like a nodding dog on speed. Kate looked at her in bemusement.
“Yeah, I guess so,” she said.
“This is all so exciting!” continued the woman, “it’s so long since anything interesting happened around these parts, I just had to come up and try get in on the action.” Her head continued to bob up and down, stray hairs flying around her face. Kate stifled the urge to giggle.
“What action would that be?” said Kate in mock amazement.
“The aliens, of course!” said the woman. Kate’s eyebrows nearly disappeared into her forehead.
“Aliens?” she repeated in disbelief.
“Yes! The archaeologists have dug something up and they have no idea what it is, but archaeologists know so much about these kinds of things that if they’re stumped, I figure it must be aliens. I always knew aliens had landed in this area but no one ever believed me. But I saw them, that night in 1999. I never knew where they crashed but I just knew it had to somewhere around here. And hey presto, here they are.”
