Anyone on here know much about ZUN, the Touhou Project and/or have any opinions on the games they make?

Recently discovered music from the game and wondering if the game is any good...

(I have done some general research on the above but wondered if you guys could add anything!)

I haven't played the games in a while. I should really play them again soon. The ones I've played are fantastic, though fiendishly difficult even on Normal difficulty (or maybe I'm just bad at playing them XD). I've only played 6, 7, 8 and 9. 6, 7 and 8 I love, and I think they're generally considered the best Touhou games. I wasn't as keen on 9, though I imagine multiplayer would be good for it.

Ahh ok, I might give them a go! I know about them being /inhumanly/ impossible, they are "bullet hell" games xP

Where do you get them from?

6 : The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil <--- I want to play this one the most

7: Perfect Cherry Blossom <--- this one looks good as well

(Haruhiist have you played 7.5?)

8: Imperishable Night <--- whilst I am at it, I might as well play that one as well

I'm not a great fan of the Touhou games themselves, but I do love the (remixed) music and the fanart :)

Some of the Touhou remix circles I like (and a sample song);

Former SciFi IT Officer now taking great pleasure in telling the current committee that they're doing it all wrong and that they should get off my lawn.
You'll mainly find me at Anime, but also at some of the Classic and Contemporary screenings. I'm usually in the student centre before screenings too.

The fanart and music is what makes the Touhou series. The original art is crap (although getting better).

Yeah, it was the music and fanart that I initially fell in love with, then I naturally progressed on to wondering what the games were like, I shall make a note of the remix circles and take a look at them, thanks!

I'll have a look on my home hard-disk in summer but I am pretty sure I have about 6 of touhou games (no idea which ones) ... but I've only really got into the 2d fighting ones (like guilty gears - think there's only 2 touhou like that), rather than the kinda arcade shooter styles ones.

Touhou has its own wiki - sources for almost every game, music remix circle, character background, popular fan-artists ... Its all on there :P Their forums are where I sourced almost everything I have from when I went through my "Touhou phase" !

I love Touhou Project. The games can be quite difficult, but once you've got the hang of it, it's usually rather straightforward until you venture out onto the more difficult modes. The gameplay is a lot of fun, and the music is really awesome too.

You can get them from:
  • Palet Mail Service (Paypal only)
  • JBOX (good service, but can be rather slow)
  • Toylet (always seem to be out of stock)
  • AKIBA-HOBBY (kinda new and never used them, but supposed to be decent)
  • Mandarake (good service, but slightly unintuitive website)

To those who have doubts as to whether Touhou Project can actually be beaten or not, have this as proof:

Image

(This screenshot is from my first time beating my first Touhou game, so please excuse my use of the Easy and Slow modes.)

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that although the game may seem really difficult, there are easier modes that can be beaten with relative ease once you actually get the hang of things. Of course, after that you can move onto more difficult modes for a greater challenge.

Y'know, we should totally have a Touhou session sometime...

(I left all my Touhou games behind in London; really need to order some more. :-P)
