About Us

Bob Tow
The lifesaving club began life when Ben Cordier founded it in 2002. Ben was a lifeguard and long time lifesaver and when he came to Bath he brought with him a vision of a club that could not only teach vital skills to students but also a forward looking platform for reaching out into the community and the wider sporting field of lifesaving. With a series of dedicated members and a years of hard work the club has become a vibrant member of the national lifesaving community, competing around Britain while also receiving acclaim for its level of skill and activeness in spreading lifesaving skills throughout the local community.
With each new year we aim to preserve our core goals of skills, competition and community while maintaining the fun energetic club Ben founded and enjoyed so much!
Skills

Teaching skills
Members have the opportunity to gain a range of recognised awards for both first aid on land and lifesaving in the water. These include:
• Life support 3
• Bronze Medallion
• NPLQ (for those of you who are interested in becoming qualified lifeguards!)
Between these awards and our fun and informative training sessions you are equipped to keep yourself safe while having the skills to help others should the worst happen. We cover how to treat baby, children and adults for a range of conditions including shock, cardiac arrest, chocking, bleeding and hypothermia. We also give you a broad overview of many different medical conditions and situations you could encounter equipping with the tools to deal with a huge range of situations!
Sport and Fitness
If you are interested in keeping fit and enjoy swimming but get bored just doing lengths then the lifesaving club is the perfect opportunity for you to get some great exercise while offering a huge variety in what you do. Training ranges from simply swimming to using surf rescue boards and loads of lifesaving equipment!
Lifesaving is a rapidly expanding sport with national and international recognition (it is even under consideration for being added to the Olympics!)
Competitions are fun and offer an exiting range of events from skills based simulated accidents to supper fast fins races and rope throw relays. The club competes in the BULSCA league giving you the opportunity to go to lots of different universities and meet loads of great people.
Community

Socials are important too!
Lifesaving offers a great opportunity to get involved with the local community, not only do we run courses but we also organise charity events and help out at community events. Recently we have done a ‘swim the channel relay’ to raise money for the RLSS and the club; organised and ran several ‘Save a Baby’ courses educating new mothers and last but not least an ‘introduction to lifesaving sport’ event with local school children having the opportunity to take part and get fit!
We are always looking for new ways to get involved and make a difference in a very real way. So if you are interested in helping people learn essential skills, working in schools or simply having fun raising money at a charity event then this is the club for you.
Social
Last but by no means least is the social aspect of the club. After a hard days competing/fundraising/swimming (delete as appropriate) there is always time for the club to get together and celebrate! We organise a wide variety of social events for members including nights out, boat trips, casino evenings, opportunities to go to the beach or meet up with other universities and much more. Experience the fun, enthusiastic and relaxed environment for yourself at any of our training sessions by checking us out!
