The Shure Beta 52 is designed
for use with kick drums and is recognisable for its shear size and
weight. In an ideal world, every kick drum has a hole in the front
to allow a microphone to be placed inside (without a stand) or held
up to (with a stand). Unfortunately, some drums haven't got a hole
so the choice is either use a knife (its been done before) or have
the Beta 52 on a stand facing the front drum skin.
Things you need to look out for
The microphone comes with its own short mic stand, which is about
a foot high. When not being used with the Beta 52, it is ideal for
use with an SM 57 to mic up a guitar amp.
