Lighting Guide - Strand MX

Introduction

The Strand MX is the resident desk in the University Main Hall. It lives in the Projection Box and controls the 72 channels in the grid. The MX in the Main Hall is the 60 channel version (the 24 channel desk is shown in the picture) and has chase and effect capabilities (such as flicker - ideal for fires or TV sets). The desk can be scene programmed or run as a "two preset" desk with fade timings also possible.

Things you need to look out for

The crossfaders for both preset crossfade and scene crossfade have become worn with age. They are quite stiff to slide and can jerk; at about 40% brightness on one of the four sliders, if it sticks at the right point, you'll get a short burst of about 70% output. The only way to get around this problem is to get to know the desk. It can be overcome if you move the sliders in the right way.
