Background

In July 2010 I took part in a NESTA funded research project in High Altitude Bioprospecting (HAB). Thanks to an IMA travel grant, I was able to travel here to the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, USA, as part of a team of UK researchers. We spent 10 days out in the desert, and along with Astrobiologists from NASA and a group of semi-professional rocket enthusiasts, the Rocket Mavericks, we launched an experiment to search for signs of life in the stratosphere.
