Further Resources

Follow-up Material

Below is a list of web resources which provide more information on the topics I cover in my talk.
  • Lots of information about the Maths of Catenaries.
  • More technical information about catenaries in the History of Maths archive.
  • Descriptions of the Particle-Swarm Optimisation algorithm can be found here and here.
  • Descriptions of the Genetic Algorithms can be found here and here.
  • Plus Magazine's careers focused Interview with an Architect which highlights the link between Maths and Architecture.

Computer Programs

The source code for the Truss Calculator program is available for download free using the link below. The programs are written using Processing - a Java-based language which is freely available from here. Processing is powerful, easy to learn and well supported with tutorials and examples, which makes it an ideal language for students to teach-themselves programming.

Teacher Worksheets

I am in the process of creating a number of worksheets for teachers, which can be used in the classroom to help with follow-up lessons.
