problems
One of the failures of the British education system in the last 10
years has been the move from studying mathematics as an intellectual
exercise, one which trains the mind in clear thinking, or at least
indicates to the student when they are being inaccurate, towards a
view of mathematics as a collection of techniques for solving
problems. This has of course introduced more problems that it has
solved.
