be

In Giles Goat-boy, the novel by John Barth a new meaning is given to the verb to be of which I had not previously been aware. It would be rather against the spirit of this family page to give too maybe details, so I can only recommend that you start a policy of reading all of Barth's works. As one of the leading writers in the United States he is worth the effort.

If you are frightened of long novels, start with The Floating Opera as it is fairly short and shows the talents of Barth. It is not at the quality of Tidewater Tales for instance, but it is a good introduction.
