The Graphic User Interfaces

There are three graphic user interfaces (GUIs) available for use with the CDP software.

It is useful to understand that the CDP software has originated in a UNIXTM-like environment, for maximum ease of portability to other computer platforms. Thus the underlying set of sound transformation and editing programs use a command line mechanism, something that works with a DOS interpreter.

Thus the graphic front ends are just that, 'front ends' that interface with the underlying 'command line' programs. One advantage of this approach is that the programs are able to be accessed directly from DOS, e.g., to check operation independently of the GUI or to create DOS batch files (with .bat extension.

The 3 GUIs currently available are SoundShaper by Ensemble Software (Robert Fraser), Sound Loom by Trevor Wishart, and GrainMill by Richard Dobson (using Trevor Wishart's underlying GRANULA program). GrainMill also incorporates Richard's graphic breakpoint editor, BrkEdit.
