Mission Statement
The mission we have embraced is to earn a place among the world leaders in developing tools for musical composition with sound by creating a cooperative and mutually supportive environment in which the experience and expertise of practising composers can be brought to bear on the design of those tools and also offer ongoing help and support to those using them.

A Composers' Viewpoint
CDP members are deeply involved in the current huge shifts in music-making. As an organisation we place the emphasis on sound transformation in creative musical contexts. Our aim is ever to support the practical activity of using sound in new ways.
We are driven by a powerful vision of the future, rooted in a composer's certainty about the validity of current developments. This emerges from a composer's ability to hear music not only before it is written, but even before the means to produce it are available.
In developing computer-based tools to create and transform sounds, CDP, therefore, has been guided in particular by the requirements flowing from the sonic imaginations of practising composers. This stance has led to a focus on: detailed and flexible access to the inner features of sounds, extensive facilities for editable time-varying parameter contours (editable automation), maintaining off-line as well as real-time functionality, and extensive documentation.
Our Long-term Vision
In the very long term, we envision sound wholly integrated into the whole fabric of music, and processing speeds and interface devices which enable both a new generation of performing instruments and the use of off-line alongside real-time operations.Last updated: 4 September 2002
