Report a Green Man

    Type: Foliage-spewers
Location: Church of St Mary
OS GR: ST 894821
Period: 17th century
Medium: Wood
Foliage: Stylised
Mood: Dark, mythological

On a 17th-century panel, in front of the organ in Hullavington church, we find two mythological beast-heads spewing stylised foliage. They are perhaps some kind of griffin. The panel itself shows the biblical story of the sacrifice of Isaac by his father Abraham, and was perhaps once part of an overmantel.
