A May King

The second of two peepers here at Horningsham, and also the second of this sub-set of the green man motif that we have found in Wiltshire.  This lord is a king, crowned and peeping out at us from the surrounding foliage.  He is serene and thoughtful, a fitting partner to the queen nearby.  He can be found on the west corner of the exterior of the north aisle.

Also at Horningsham

  • Three more green men
  • A carved angel roof inside the church
  • A holy well up on the main road, below a stone cross
